Swim Season May 31 – July 25, 2010

Meet Schedule: June 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and July 1, 6, and 8.

Championships:  July 24.    Awards picnic: July 25.

Cost:    FRA – 1 swimmer - $50, 2 swimmers - $90, 3 or more - $120

VFR, Quail Hollow/Willow Glenn and Wynwood – 1 swimmer - $60, 2 swimmers - $100, 3 or more - $130.  This fee does not include membership to the FRA pool or use of the pool other than for swim team practice, meets and special events.

Swimming if FunChildren ages 5-18 (as of June 1, 2010) that can swim any stroke 25 yards (across the lap pool) unassisted are eligible to join the team.  If you aren’t sure your swimmer can swim the length of the pool – have them come to the first week of practice on a trial basis.

The swim team is associated with the Miami Valley Swim Association.   This year we will travel to Huber Heights, Waynesville, Oakwood, Beavercreek and Wilmington College.  The team is active throughout the summer with picnics and pool parties and fundraisers.  Favorite events are the end of season awards picnic and the Championship Pep Rally Breakfast.  Each year the swimmers make tie-dye t-shirts to gear up for Championships.  Fundraising includes a concessions stand at every home meet and the July 4th and End of Season FRA pool party.  We will also be holding Family Fundraising Nights at several restaurants in the area such as McDonald’s and Bob Evans.

Parental help is essential to guarantee the continued existence of the program and is required for a swimmer to join the team and to swim at the meets.  Parent and/or caregivers are required to volunteer to fill the manpower needs of all home meets, several away meets and to participate in the fundraisers.  Everyone can be trained for every job at a swim meet.

To fulfill the soda pop needs of the concession stand each swimmer will be assessed a $6 soda fee.  This replaces the soda donations.  The concession stand manager will take this pop fee and go and buy water, soda and Gatorade for the concession stand.

On May 15th at the pool you will be able to meet the coaches and talk with swim team committee.  You will be able to try on and order the official swim team suit.  Payment needs to be made for suit orders at the time of your order.

Registration Forms are available here.  These include the Swimmers Registration Form, Coach’s Planning Sheet, Conduct Clause, Parent Volunteer Commitment Form and Emergency Contact Form.  Please bring these forms with you to the Open House or to the first swim team practice.

We look forward to seeing you on the 15th.  Please call Angie Knick at 237-0567 or Karla Herman at 235-0825 or email at kjherman@sbcglobal.net for more information.  The website is another great resource for info.

Forest Ridge Association Swim Team Philosophy

  1. We have clear policies and rules so that everyone will be treated evenly and fairly.

  2. We distribute the swimming opportunities as evenly as possible among all participants.

  3. We encourage the swimmers to concentrate on doing their best and to enjoy the competition – win or lose.

  4. We encourage the swimmers to cheer for their teammates and to congratulate them on their performance.

  5. We hire good coaches, give them clear instruction as to what we expect, and closely monitor their performance.

The success of the Swim Team is not just the result of effort by the swimmers.  Behind every swimmer there needs to be an adult who supports the team in the areas of transportation, officiating, scoring, supervision and fund raising.  Those who get involved find that it’s a lot of fun.
